Introduc tion In the recent years, Blackberry has hit the headlines with negatives of decline in sales. The worst of all was the recording of fourth quarter loss of about $125 million. The chief executive announced that the company is ready to sell or license a portion of its business. This trend is anticipated to continue. This poses a threat to the once leading mobile operator in the world. In five consecutive rows, the company failed to reach its quarterly financial guidance. Before the release of the fifth financial results, the co-chief executive and co-chairman announced that he had resigned from his position from the board. Unlike his predecessor in the position of chief executive who lived in the denial concerning the financial position of the company, Thorsten Heins (CEO of RIM) developed candid tone and expressed that the company was undergoing tough financial struggles. ObjectiveThis paper shall explore the rea sons behind the noticeable fall in Blackberry sales with an aim to expose the obvious pitfalls that the company faced. Literature Review Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of Blackberry, has been the leading company in the smartphone industry. It launched the Blackberry smartphones, which has become the peopleââ¬â¢s favorite in the world. Within the first 10 years after inception, Blackberry has recorded immense success. It recorded the highest growth rate between 2008 and 2009 when the revenue growth increased from $6 billion to $11 billion. The availability of Blackberry products has been marketed throughout the world using channels of extension of distribution. Blackberry has had an increase in the number of users until last year when the numbers remained constant and started declining after a few months (See appendix 1) The recent headlines have seen Blackberry reporting a decline in the sales. This is mainly attributed to numerous competitors and the introductio n of iPhones, which has distinct features. The revenue reduces by 43 percent in the first quarter of this year to $2.8 billion. One major reason for the decline is the competition faced from the Appleââ¬â¢s and Samsung products, which has touchscreen services. In response to the decline in the sales RIM is set to launch Blackberry 10 with touch screen services. RIM CEO announced that they would be laying off 5,000 employees for restructuring purposes Methodology This study is focused on examining the trend by Blackberryââ¬â¢s sales. The use of a detailed questionnaire was important in establishing what influences the customerââ¬â¢s decision to buy Blackberry phones. Ten questions were formulated to help identify the impact variables. The questions are shown in appendix 1. I also sought to establish the marketing strategies in Blackberry. This was done by observation of the distribution agents and centers. I collected the number of Blackberry phones that were sold in eac h outlet in one year. I also did a comparison of the important features of smartphones that are in other brands that attracts people to them. What features in Blackberry are qualified as a smartphone, comparing to other brands of smartphones? We sought to establish the effects of customerââ¬â¢s judgment of sales.Secondary Research was also an important part of my study. The first research approach for this paper is either inductive or deductive. I have explored on a lot of qualitative data, which is inductive research in nature. Blackberry has faced immense challenges and hurdles over the last few years and these needs to be noted down to analyze the decline and this why I have used inductive approach. I also used deductive research to get firsthand knowledge from the sample that was handed the questionnaire and understand what people think is good or bad about Blackberry. My second research is primarily done by the help of online websites and journals. The findings will be impo rtant for analyzing in the later stage. A problem I encountered during my research was with the consistency and reliability of the secondary data as in todayââ¬â¢s date trends change on daily basis and it is hard to find the accurate data. As the matter of fact, the primary data was somewhat biased with certain people. Findings and Discussion of Findings From the questionnaire posted, Blackberry has users drawn from mixed demographic characteristics. Majority of the users falls between 18 years and 35 years. A number of them are young people who are fond of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The gender factor was not so much determinant factor as there was equal distribution of users of the same sex. Unlike his predecessor in the position of chief executive who lived in the denial concerning the financial position of the company, Thorsten Heins developed candid tone and expressed that the company was undergoing tough financial struggles. In the interview, he frankly confessed that there is no hope that things are likely to change in the near future. The respondent cited various features that determine their decision to buy a smartphone. Some argued that Blackberry smartphones have menu layouts and options that can easily confuse the user. The OS 6 in the smartphone enables the users to manipulate the phone via keyboard and track pad. The respondents, however, noted that they would prefer touch screens, which are easy to manipulate than using a keyboard. The respondents affirmed that when they think of smartphone, the first thing that comes into their mind is Blackberry. Nevertheless, a few noted that they also recognized other smartphones offered by Nokia and Apple. Many respondents agreed that the slogan employed by Blackberry is very appealing, but it influenced their decision to a smaller extent. They argued that other smartphones also allow users to connect people across the globe and so this was not just unique for Blackberry. T he unique qualities of Blackberry include wireless and call quality, availability of entertainment, browser options, camera, and durable battery life. The Blackberry browser services are very fast with more features that were absent among other predecessor smartphones. With the OS 6, the users expressed that features such as tabbed browsing and pinch-to-zoom are very interesting. However, they also noted that the site would hang when browsing difficult sites. In terms of secondary research, it was important to find out the how much did the sales actually decline to. I found that Blackberry had good sales until the ends of 2010, however, a downfall was seen and ever since then sales have fallen significantly, as it is seen below in the diagram. This was primarily due to competition and Blackberryââ¬â¢s inability to compete in the market. We can see in the figure below how Blackberryââ¬â¢s profits have dropped from its peak in 2011 till 2012. It is a significant drop of 7 per cent in sales. It is evident that the trend will continue in the future. Blackberry is not able to adapt and change to consumer needs. Conclusions and Recommendations RIM is in big trouble to capture the lost market in the smartphones. Even the yet to be launched Blackberry is likely not to shake the market to a greater extent. This means that Blackberry risk being phased out of the smartphone market. Consumers are likely to ignore the emergence of Blackberry given nothing new, but just similar to what is readily available in the market. Blackberry has suffered a setback, because it uses an outdated OS. In addition, their hardware is not appealing to many carriers. Moreover, their strongest opponents are also not hesitant to come up with better technologies. For instance, Apple is set to release a new iPhone with unique features that can be used for business people. In addition, Nokia is also warming up for a comeback in the smartphone market. This means that Blackberry will continues to shrink in the smartphone market, and this is evident its current financial performance. Faucette research shows that a number of carrier retails shops had not sold Blackberry phones in the course of this year. He further explains that Blackberry recorded no notable change in sales between the months of July and August 2012. This implies that the upcoming Blackberry is likely to be ignored since customers shall have gone a long stretch and would opt for better alternatives offered by competitors such as Nokia, Android, and Apple. I believe it is premature to rule out Blackberry from the smartphone market. However, they need to be more creative and innovative in order to strive it todayââ¬â¢s market and compete ...

5 Attention-Grabbing Presentation Techniques to Impress Your Profs
When you have a presentation at school, you want to make it interesting and worthy of attention and even the most boring topics can be brought to life when you use the right presentation techniques. When you are doing a presentation, you want to get the attention of the audience and keep them interested so they will continue listening to your speech. For this purpose you can use new trends that are gaining popularity in the presentation design world. They are setting the rules of how presentations should be created as well as delivered. As a result, you can use these 5 best presentation techniques that are growing in popularity: 1. Storytelling This could be considered as one of the most popular presentation options available. Your message is presented clearly and vividly during the presentation, and it makes it much more memorable for the audience. When you use a storytelling approach, the audience remembers much more about your presentation for a long time because the stories are interesting and logical. 2. Creative Use of Typography Playing with the typography gets the attention of the audience while you are also using an attractive and unique way to get the message across. This makes your presentation stand out from the rest by getting the attention of the audience. 3. Creative Illustrations Creative illustrations can spice up your presentation and help get attention. These illustrations can be either hand-drawn or done professionally. The illustrations, of course, need to go along with the presentation and its topic. 4. Flat Design This is a newer concept that is gaining popularity. These modern-looking slide decks give the audience a minimalist, clean look that will keep them interested. It is a simple approach because the slides and graphics are clear and easy to understand. 5. Effective Use of Colors While fonts and typography can get the attention of your audience, so can colors. Colors play a major role in keeping people interested in the presentation. You can use several colors and different types of design throughout the presentation to make people follow your every slide and feel excited before the next one. 6. Getting Everything Together If you are working on getting a presentation together, choose the best technique or combine techniques, so you can create an interesting, attention grabbing presentation that will draw in the audience and keep them focused until the end of the presentation. With the right techniques, you can impress even your professor and provide yourself with a good grade. If you can hit it over the fence with your professor, odds are you can keep the interest of others. If you choose the right attention grabbing technique for your presentation, you will be able to deliver your information successfully. The experience will also help you throughout your future career.

Human Relations Between Cuba And Cuba - 1888 Words
Lord Viscount Palmerston, a former British prime minister, once said that ââ¬Å"it is a narrow policy to suppose thatâ⬠¦ [Britain]â⬠¦ is to be marked out as the eternal ally or the perpetual enemy of England. We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow (qtd. Burke 51). This view is valid for all countries, but in particular, it speaks to the United States and their relationship with Cuba. Since 1959, the year in which Fidel Castro took over Cuba from the dictator Fulgencio Batista and established a communist regime, relations between America and Cuba have been rather tense. When Fidel Castro and his allies took power through a revolution,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Recent developments in the relationship between the US and Cuba have surprised many, but this is not a sudden change as there are many reasons for this shift. A number of countries in Latin America are hostil e to Americaââ¬â¢s foreign politics in the region and even some allies such as Mexico, Argentina, or Brazil have not agreed with Americaââ¬â¢s espionage scandal. In fact, the US spied on the Brazil, one of their greatest ally in the region. These revelations have cast a chill in relations between the two countries. Since American-Cuban relations are historically vast, this paper will focus on the history of the past 55 years in order to better understand the context of the current situation, and to help explain why this approach is not sudden or abrupt. America does not have permanent enemies and has often had a pragmatic approach toward hostile regimes. Analyzing the current approach of the American policy toward Cuba as a function of the international political scene, I will also show that the bulk of American opinion has evolved on the Cuban question. After many years, the embargo policy has not produced the expected effects on Cuban social structures. In addition, the Am erican economy needs new markets, like

Consumer Behaviour Online Research Paper Example
Essays on Consumer Behaviour Online Research Paper The paper "Consumer Behaviour Online" is an excellent example of a research paper on marketing.à In this cutting-edge era, marketing planning and strategies are directed towards creating an environment to influence consumer behavior. The products and services are launched in the market focusing on the tastes and the preferences of the consumer. Product quality and vigorous advertisement have changed the way the consumer behaves. However, it is significant to identify whether policies, strategies, and plans adopted by firms do fit in the consumerââ¬â¢s demands and needs and whether the methodologies adopted by companies goes in tandem with consumerââ¬â¢s ultimate needs. This paper focuses on consumer behavior online, as the understanding of customer needs and wants is one of the major underpinning constructs of the marketing constructs (M Evans, A. Jamal Gordon Foxall, 2006). It highlights how the theories and research methods help provide greater insight into the processes un derlying consumer behavior in online environments. The paper identifies two contrasting perspectives into consumer behavior related to Internet marketing mechanisms: the social values and emotional approach.2. Literature ReviewAccording to G. Zaltman (2002) ââ¬Å"A great mismatch exists between the way consumers experience and think about their world and the methods marketers use to collect this information.â⬠Though much research has been done on the effects of the Internet, cell phones, specialized search engines, websites, etc., to gauge consumer behavior the significance of personal, social, national and cultural aspects has yet to get equal footing. In principle, there is a need for study in identifying attitudes and behaviors of online consumers, from the point of consumer-style, as done in three European countries and the US, using data from the DDB Brand Capital Study showed that country differences are evident on consumption style. The Internet (Gerald Zoltnan, 2000) h as revolutionized the way advertising research is conducted. From traditional research problems, such as ethics, to brand new issues, such as online advertising, every aspect of advertising research has changed to adjust to the advent of the Internet and its related technologies. Personal values research in marketing has recently received a substantial amount of attention from both academics and practitioners. This more in-depth profiling of the consumer and his or her relationship to products offers potential not only for understanding the ââ¬Å"cognitiveâ⬠positioning of current products but also permits the development of positioning strategies for new products.Addressing the psychological view of the marketplace (Sheth, 1983) put forward the suggestion that in order to be competitive in marketing products in the 1980s, both researchers and management are going to have to if they have not already adopted this consumer-based orientation rather than one that merely focuses on product characteristics. Consumer Behaviour Online Research Paper Example Essays on Consumer Behaviour Online Research Paper The paper "Consumer Behaviour Online" is an excellent example of a research paper on marketing. Gone are the days when starting from cooking food until communication took hours and days. Now it is the age of the Internet an icon for the pace at which the world is running. The Internet is the medium used by a wide range of people for several functions. As days pass through more and more people are gravitating towards theInternet users with more intensity due to the easy accessibility of technology, availability of information and easy way of interaction. (1)Marketing in current days can be defined as the management process that responsible for proper identification, anticipation and the one that is responsible for satisfying the customerââ¬â¢s requirements, profitably. (2)According to the center for communication policy, online shopping is the third most popular Internet activity, immediately following email using and web browsing. Online shopping behavior can be defined as the pro cess of purchasing products or services through the Internet. In this online process shopping, the customer when feels a need arousing goes to the Internet and search for the relevant information. In due coarse during searching is also attracted by information about closely associated products with the felt need and naturally evaluates both and goes for the better option. Finally, the transaction is made in terms of buying a product through the Internet. Thus the online shopping attitude and consumer behavior are a psychological state. (1)With the total Internet users population growing from 1.73 million in 1993 to 110 million in 2001, more and more brick and mortar companies are entering the e-Market. The advantage of e-marketing may be considered effects made on products, services, skills, staffing, structure, system, and customer based. But e-Commerce is different in that, here the customer decides the coarse and the volume of customer database provides to a depth of the success. In e-Market, the service providers have to face a very strict competition, as the possibility of varying the promotion is very less. So it becomes very clear that in order to survive and be profitable in online business the knowledge about potential customers and the behavioral aspects is very important. This point is the base of the entire assignment. (Changchick Vorkurkara,2003) (3)Generally, analysis of customer behavior is done either by personal discussion, survey, conduction of the experiments, by simulation studies, by the usage of questioners or by simple observation. In this, I have used the selected number of observations of my own Online behavior and that of my family and friends, employing observation discussion and questions, trying to find out what all we doing and why are we doing.
Book Review The Shadow of the Galilean Essay - 1535 Words
Monica C. Sangco Due: 4/21/2014 CST130B ââ¬â Book Review: The Shadow of the Galilean by Gerd Theissen The book The Shadow of the Galilean by Gerd Theissen is a historical fiction, creating a fictitious account of the life of Jesus through a narrative of a third person. This story brings an interesting, more relatable version to the reader as they go through the thoughts and travels of Andreas, a Jewish merchant, the protagonist of the book. Most events of this story are historically accurate which allows readers to better conceptualize the ideas that Theissen brings forward within the story by creatively tying it in to the life of Andreas. Andreas chooses to gather information for the Romans and become the ââ¬Å"adviser in religious affairsâ⬠(14) but with the intent of passing on irrelevant information to the Romans as to avoid betraying his own people. As Andreas is released, he meets the roman officer, Metilius, who was assigned to oversee his case. Metilius is first introduced to be very open-minded with the Jewish religions. He frequently debated and questioned the logic of the Jewish faith with Andreas during his briefings. His first task was to investigate the Essenes, a secretive community of people who lives in the wilderness who have hostility towards the Temple. After he was united with his slaves, they journeyed into the desert and met an exiled Essene named Baruch. Andreas hoped to gain information about the Essenes by showing him where to get food and drink so he wouldnââ¬â¢t perish in the wilderness. He learned that they practiced monogamy and criticized civilizationââ¬â¢s way of living, especially Herodââ¬â¢s lifestyle. They hated Rome and believed there was going to be a major religious war. Andreas wrote to Pilate and gave his filtered report, which stated that they fo llow a different calendar and still fairly paid taxes to the Temple.
